It’s that time of year again. Groups are being formed, story lines are being created, and songs are being mixed. The 5th annual Purple Cow lip-synching competition is about to commence. On January 24th, groups of students and groups of teachers will try-out to be official teams for Purple Cow. Then on February 9th, the competition will begin! This is a Hickman event you do not want to miss!

Purple Cow has not always been called Purple Cow. In the beginning it was called Golden Cow and was identical to Purple Cow, except for the fact that it was a competition that also included Rock Bridge. When asked why Golden Cow ended, Mr. Jeff Devero admitted that he was entirely sure why it stopped, but that Hickman has done a great job continuing this amazing event while also raising money for great causes.

This event is not only for the students and teachers to have a friendly competition though. There is a $5 admission charge for students and adults to attend the event. The profits made from Purple Cow generally go to the True Life Fund recipient during the T/F Film Festival. Mr. Devero said that they haven’t found out which film has been determined to be the focus of this year, but they should be getting that information within the next few weeks.

Out of the four Purple Cow competitions at Hickman, teacher groups have won twice and student groups have won twice. At the moment, there are six student groups signed up to participate and there are at least two teacher groups expected to sign up as well. More groups are welcome to sign up to participate.

This year’s Purple Cow will be on Thursday, February 9th.  The doors will be opening at 6 p.m. Sponsors would like all groups that would like to participate to be signed-up by Friday, January 20th. Auditions to participate will be held on Tuesday, January 24th to ensure that the music and performances for each group are school appropriate.
